Paloma Faith - New york

This is another artist that is heavily similar to Ellie Tanner. Whilst this particular song isn't very similar, this was one of her very first music videos that she made whilst still trying to establish herself as an artist. The video is heavily centered around her style. The entire thing together is much like a broadway production which is a genre her voice is highly suited to, this is especially shown when she is spotlighted. The video also features close ups and bisected shots that are purposefully designed to focus on the tattoo on her shoulder of a dove, paloma being the spanish for dove this is almost her trademark. There is a heavy focus on the sparkles on her dress and the video has been highly glamourised to inform the audience that she is reasonably classy.

In terms of balancing narrative with artist performance it appears to be quite mish mashed in this video. However the performance and narrative do combine together at the end to complete the peice. Similar to Kate Nash's video, the narrative shots are filmed using hand held cameras to add to the realism. The camera also frequently goes out of focus which, as well as being a way to take the audience out of the narrative, can be interpreted as a dream like state in which Paloma is remembering what she used to have.

An interesting feature of this video is the use of editing to change the setting. Not only in relation to shots of new york being featured throughtout the chorus but the appearance of clouds on the bowling alley floor also takes us out of the bowling alley and to somewhere different.
