Band Research - Paramore

Record companies use many different forms of media to market their band or artist. The band Paramore is a good example of how this has been done. Paramore are an American alternative band, formed in their hometown of Franklin Tennessee in 2004. Originally formed by Hayley Williams, Jeremy Davies and Zak and Josh Farro, the band has been ever changing since. They are currently signed to fueled by ramen, a label specialising in alternative and indie bands.
They have marketed Paramore in the following ways:

· Street team
· Posters advertising tour dates, album and single releases
· Free badges
· Appearances in video games
· Internet usage
Street team
The street team is a group of people whose job it is to stand on the street and give out free paramore badges and flyers, and put up paramore posters and adverts in key demographic areas. They’re also the ones who control the multiple websites and webpages dedicated to the band.
Internet usage
The street team have set up numerous pages on the internet for the band, including buying ad-space and sponsored links. The webpages included in this are;

· Bands own website - www.paramore.net
· Facebook fan page
· MySpace music page
· Sponsored links on Google
· YouTube
· Ticketmaster
· Last.fm
· Re-tweets on Twitter

The best ways they used the internet to get the band orignally noticed was to give away free downloads of their songs on their MySpace music page, this has since been de-activated as the bands popularity has grown. They also associated themselves with other popular bands from their record label, such as fall out boy, this was done by featuring related links on the bands webpage and fan pages. This was also done on YouTube by having paramore appear in recommended videos which then got them viewed in the most popular videos section.
The way in which the band uses ticketing websites is not only a good way for them to gain fans but to keep their current fans in the loop on their tour dates and other smaller events. One particular site they use is Ticketmaster, e-mails are sent out to people who have previously bought paramore tickets or tickets for a related event, notifying them of the upcoming event. The site also features adverts and notices on the home page so that everyone is aware of the upcoming tours and live performances.
