Kate Nash album cover

Kate Nash's 'My Best Friend Is you' is her second and most recent album. The central image features the general theme of the album, love. She is also featured as a part of the central image, being used to contribute to the theme of the album. By making her a part of the heart shape on the cover it is suggesting that the albums heart is her. This is something that is generally seen as an artist grows in popularity, after the initial 'playing to please the label', she comes into her own and sings what she wants to sing, she has put her heart and soul into this album and it is a collection of her true feelings in song form. This album represents her as a person and this is shown in the album artwork.

The colours used in this artwork shows the audience the album's genre, it's rustic and folky. An old fashioned effect has been used to give the images the illusion of being from the 30's, yet colour has been introduced make it relatable to typical folk art. If we were to remove the colours from this album the entire theme would be changed and the artist name font would be completely out of place.

The font used differs for album title and artist name. The album title is a classic font, regularly associated with the 30's. This matches the imagery on the album cover, the photo style used is similar to this era, this effect is generally called aged or old fashioned. The font used for the artist title matches the painted edge or the images used yet doesn't match the album title, instead it is a playful font, similar to a child's painting. The images create a link between the sophistication of the 30's and a playful style. The album artist has taken classic images and turned them into a sort of collage, creating the idea of playfulness.
